COVID-19 Recovery Fund
The enduring impact of COVID-19 has been devastating for the economic, physical and mental health of the Asian and Pacific Islander (API) community. Critical issues include:
- RISE IN ANTI-ASIAN RACISM: The pandemic has contributed to a massive spike in anti-Asian hate incidents, attacks and discrimination. Read more about our focused efforts to address this here.
- HIGHER FATALITY RATES: The fatality rate from COVID-19 for Asians is nearly triple that of all other ethnic groups in San Francisco.
- LONGER UNEMPLOYMENT: Almost 50% of unemployed Asians have been out of work longer than any other ethnic group.
- INCREASED BULLYING: 1 in 4 Asian American youths experience racist bullying.
In response to these needs, we raised $1.3M in partnership with The James Irvine Foundation for our COVID-19 Recovery Fund, supporting organizations across the state with $1M going to Bay Area nonprofits and $300K to nonprofits in Southern California. We distributed grants to 38 of our affiliates who are providing immediate relief for the API community including services such as counseling programs, financial and legal assistance, and in-language education on COVID-19 vaccines and resources.
