Even though Asians are 25 percent of the Bay Area's population, we receive less than 1 percent of mainstream and corporate funding, while nearly the same proportion of Asian children grows up in poverty as the general population, and our Asian elderly have special needs. Asian organizations have always struggled to keep pace, and one solution is expanding the resource base. That is why we have built a community foundation that engages donors and supports local organizations.
Serving Agencies
The Fund makes grants to agencies and assists them with development and donor support, so they can have the resources they need to serve their clients. Services include capacity building workshops for non-profit groups on fundraising, strategic planning and organizational development. The Asian Pacific Fund raises funds and directly allocates resources to more than 90 charitable agencies serving all the Asian ethnic groups in the Bay Area. These organizations provide important services to Asian Americans and offer programs in areas like:
- Health services, like counseling and free testing at clinics
- After-school tutoring and education for youth
- Care services for the elderly
- Job training and vocational English
- Immigration, naturalization and other legal services
- Economic development and promoting Asian small business
- Environmental conservation and neighborhood enrichment
- Culture and the arts
Serving Donors
We are the only organization in the Bay Area focused on working closely with Asian donors and fundraising for Asian community groups. We place the highest priority on raising awareness about hidden needs in the community and important issues affecting local Asian Americans.
The Fund provides donors with valuable advice to help them to fulfill their charitable goals. We distribute funds to high-quality programs so contributions directly improve people’s lives and have a tangible positive impact. In this way, donors can support their community as they themselves were once supported. The Fund identifies not only the greatest needs, but also the hidden needs that large public agencies might overlook.
By supporting the expansion of Asian philanthropy, the Fund is creating a long-term benefit to Asian American community. Donors honor the struggles of their ancestors, pay respect to their heritage, and build a legacy of Asian Americans supporting one another and those in need. In this way, everyone can all take part in building a stronger and better Asian American community.
Serving the Public
To enhance the work with community agencies and raise awareness about issues, the Fund sponsors selected public education projects that raise awareness about the character of the Asian American community and our hidden needs. We also have created projects that serve the large and diverse Asian community on crucial issues such as earthquake preparedness and depression among the Asian elderly.

"As a foundation that focuses on the Asian community, the Fund plays an important dual role in responding to the issues that affect immigrants and refugees. The Fund works to increase donors' understanding of the needs of these at-risk populations and it supports community-based organizations with grants that seed new initiatives and programs."
